Garden St Reconstruction

Project Background

The city is planning to reconstruct Garden Street, between Center Street and 5th North Street. Construction is scheduled for 2027.

The following are included as part of the project:

  • Pedestrian safety improvements, including ADA-compliant sidewalks

  • Introduction of a mini roundabout

  • Upgraded lighting

  • Water and storm sewer rehabilitation

This street provides connections between multiple parks, schools, and recreational facilities in the area, along with the New Ulm Medical Center. The reconstruction will incorporate the needs of all users according to the city’s Complete Streets Policy and Active Transportation Plan.

The project budget is $5.6 million, funded by local, state, and federal sources. The city was awarded $3.39 million in federal grants to construct improvements.

  • Rehabilitates aging infrastructure

  • Improves road conditions

  • Improves safety at intersections

  • Improves mobility and safety for pedestrians

  • Rehabilitates stormwater and sewer infrastructure

  • Remove diseased and hazardous trees
